Fund 100 Beds for Children’s Hospitals in Ukraine

FUND HOSPITAL BEDS FOR UKRAINIAN CHILDREN’S HOSPITALS

See Concord’s Traveling Ukrainian Quilt!  It will be on display at various locations in town and is being raffled to raise money for children’s hospital beds in war-torn Ukraine.  The War in Ukraine continues to rage, and hospitals desperately need beds for children’s and maternity wards.  This Ukraine-themed quilt was hand-made by the Concord Piecemakers   to help raise funds and will go to one lucky winner on December 4th.   Buy tickets for Concord’s Ukrainian Quilt Raffle to raise money for hospital beds!

A $250 donation funds one bed, and any donation is helpful.

Our Concord fall goal is $25,000 for 100 beds!  Please consider funding a bed – on your own or with friends and family.  The raffle winner will be announced at the 12/4 Concord Tree Lighting – all donors will be notified by email of the result.

2022 Kicks for Cancer Weekend

The Lois Wells Memorial Kicks for Cancer event returns to Concord-Carlisle High School (CCHS) on September 24! Year after year, KICKS brings the community together to support local high school soccer teams and raise funds to advance women’s cancer research. Since 2007, Kicks for Cancer has raised over $665,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of CCHS Coach Steve Wells’ mother Lois. The soccer games start early in the day and stretch into the evening—with players taking to the fields wearing jerseys with the name of a loved one who has battled cancer displayed on their backs. Field Hockey and Volleyball teams will also compete in their pink and teal throughout the morning. Tickets will be available at the gate on the day of the event. Food will be available throughout the day (cash only). The game schedule is available at https://www.kicksforcancer1.org under “Kicks Weekend”.

Click to listen to podcast  – Ray Pavlik and Trish Siefer talk about how Kicks for Cancer Weekend got started, how it evolved and what is happening throughout the Weekend.

The Mighty Moose 5k is part of Kicks for Cancer weekend and all funds raised by Mighty Moose and Kicks for Cancer support the same important cause! The donations support the work of Dr. Kevin Elias of the Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Elias and his research team are on the forefront of ovarian cancer research and have developed a groundbreaking new blood test for early detection and diagnosis of the disease, which can save the lives of thousands of women every year.

The $500,000 we raise this year will enable Dr. Elias’s laboratory to expand their staff and significantly increase the numbers of samples processed in the MiDe study. This level of funding will also enable Dr. Elias to use archival (previously collected) samples to start validating the test in women without known risk factors for ovarian cancer, which is a key step in saving many thousands of lives every year.

Please register and join us on Sunday, September 25!! We are blessed to have such an incredibly generous and supportive Mighty Moose community, and we are grateful for your continued support.

Go Out Doors – Neighbors

“Go Out Doors” inspires discovery and exploration of outdoors spaces and trails, and the intersection/action of place, community, spirit, and nature.

“Go Out Doors” is an expansive and evolving regional public art campaign that promotes healthy outdoors activity, environmental appreciation, and inter-town regional tourism throughout Greater Boston and Metrowest.

Inspired by the En Plein Air exhibition on NYC’s High Line, Go Out Doors – Neighbors builds upon and extends The Umbrella Arts Center’s summer 2020 installation of artfully upcycled doors originally commissioned for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in West Concord’s Cultural District. The exhibition intended to encourage a reconnection to nature for communities then emerging from COVID-19 isolation, at-home schooling, and telecommuting. Gorgeously decorated, recycled doors crafted by regional artists became surprising waypoints of delight while traveling bike paths and walking trails. Some emphasize local wildlife and environmental themes; others are fun and whimsical, stressing exercise and companionship.

Go Out Doors – Neighbors projects have continued to spread, with new art doors installed or planned in NorthboroughCarlisle, Westford, Concord, ArlingtonLexingtonMedford, Groton, Minute Man National Historical Park, and eight villages in Newton including Auburndale; Newton Centre; Newton Highlands, Newton Upper Falls, Newtonville, Nonantum, Waban and West Newton. For a non-exhaustive, interactive Google map of past, current and upcoming artdoor installations, click the map shown here.

Emerson Hospital 5k Run~Walk for Cancer Care – What does Care mean?

Providing compassionate CARE until there is a CURE

YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. Your participation and support make this possible.

What does Cancer CARE mean to the Run~Walk?

Funding from this 5k provides CARE for our cancer patients in so many ways – financial, therapeutic, connection, nourishment, medical.

So many things in life can cause stress in our lives  – from daily tasks to responsibilities we each have. Sadly, if a person gets a cancer diagnosis, many of those everyday sources of stress don’t go away – they sometimes become all the more stressful or overwhelming.

One of the first things a patient is advised to do is eliminate as much stress as possible so he/she can focus on getting the care they need.

That’s where the Emerson Hospital 5k Run~Walk for Cancer Care can help. The funds raised from this event go to help patients with childcare, transportation to / from appointments, assistance in paying expenses, nutritional support, support groups and social connections & therapeutic support. This way, the patient can focus on what on what they need to do get healthy.

“I am very grateful that my chemotherapy was at the Naka infusion center. The nurses and administrators worked around all the challenges COVID ignited to provide expert, seamless, loving care at every step of my chemotherapy.  To have the expertise of MGH Cancer Center available so close to home makes a huge difference during cancer treatment because traveling is difficult and you often need to return to the center for additional treatment at very short notice.  They saved me from numerous trips to the Emergency Room and made the whole experience of chemotherapy as pleasant as possible.”

M. Cobb, Concord Resident
