Learn about “Concord for Ukraine” Group

Concord for Ukraine is a group of concerned Concord citizens who have come together to raise money and provide medical equipment to those on the frontlines in Ukraine through a Boston-based organization called Ukraine Forward.

Every One Needed.  Together – we can make a difference.

It’s simple: Citizens purchase medical supplies through a carefully cultivated and monitored Amazon WishList. The supplies are collected at Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jamaica Plain where packages are boxed and shipped via Air Poland for distribution by Ukrainian volunteer university students in Kyiv. Already this organization has supplied nearly $400,000 in needed medical supplies directly to Ukrainian soldiers and citizen fighters. This war is devastating and senseless. We hope you will join us in this effort.

This event is being offered by Sonia Kowal (daughter of Concord residents Irene and Igor) and sponsored by The Umbrella Arts Center to promote the new community initiative – Concord for Ukraine –  providing medical equipment to Ukrainians on the frontlines through the Boston-based volunteer organization Ukraine Forward.  Ms. Kowal has conducted pysanky workshops at Boston Adult Education Center and Boston College.

A pysanka is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, “to write” or “to inscribe,” as the designs are not painted on, but written (inscribed) with beeswax.

Concord Author, John Della Volpe’s new book: “Fight: How Gen Z Is Channeling Their Fear and Passion to Save America”

Local resident John Della Volpe is the Director of Polling at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics, where he has led polling initiatives on understanding American youth since 2000.

The Washington Post referred to John as one of the world’s leading authorities on global sentiment, opinion and influence. John appears regularly on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and has been featured in many national media outlets including the Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

Get your signed edition of John Della Volpe’s “Fight: How Gen Z Is Channeling Their Fear and Passion to Save America” from the Concord Book Shop!

https://www.concordbookshop.com/get-your-signed-edition-john-della-volpes-fight-how-gen-z-channeling-their-fear-and-passion-save

Compelling and hopeful, FIGHT combines first-hand interviews with Gen Z members, drawing on their stories and experiences, with fresh data and insight. The book looks at how a generation that’s been faced with an onslaught of unprecedented events – September 11, the war on terror, Hurricane Katrina, the 2008 financial crisis, the housing crisis, the opioid epidemic, mass school shootings, climate change, racial injustice, the whiplash between the election of the first Black president and Donald Trump, and COVID-19 to name a few– has become more politically engaged aiming to disrupt the status quo.

“Perceptive and informative… This is the rare sociological study that manages to inspire.”  ―Publishers Weekly

“A provocative pleasure for demography geeks and political trend-watchers.” ―Kirkus Reviews

“Scrupulously documented.”  ―Booklist

“A compelling, comprehensive, and intensely readable roadmap for why Gen Z is so angry at the political reality they’ve inherited—and why they’re stepping up to stop their parents and grandparents’ generations from destroying their future…urgent, essential reading. It’ll put you in a fighting mood—and give you hope for a better tomorrow.”

—Charlotte Alter, Senior Correspondent, TIME, and author of The Ones We’ve Been Waiting For

And, it was Amazon Editors’ Pick for Best Nonfiction, January & #1 Best Seller in the Democracy, Political Advocacy and Human Rights categories on first day!
