Online Class
Color, Texture, & Shape in Fiber with Janet Loren Hill
All Levels
Medium: All Fiber Media
Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
May 1 – 29, 2021
During this five-week intensive, students will explore how color, texture & shape can affect the meaning and emotive response cultivated within their projects using the fibers technique of their choice (crochet, weaving, coiling, knittng. sewing, felting, etc). Each class will begin with a fibers skill demo (determined by students’ request), lecture, and an inspiration prompt to guide students as they create. The second half of class will be dedicated to building community as we work on these inspiration prompts alongside one another. During work time readings from contemporary and historical fiber artists on the topics of color, texture and/or form will be read aloud and opened up for discussion. In-depth topics covered include color theory, optical color, cultural connotations of color, physical texture versus visual/implied texture, Gestalt theory and positive/negative shape.
