Come celebrate abolition with the Sons & Daughters of Ham at Concord’s North Bridge in Minute Man National Historical Park. Learn about how Black people from Massachusetts fought for equal rights during the 19th century through this living history event. From private households to churches, and aid organizations, members of the Black community fought to realize promises unfulfilled during the revolutionary period.

Join the Sons & Daughters of Ham as they portray the Liberty Guards, a 19th-century Black volunteer militia; and the Fugitive Aid Society of Boston, an organization of Black women who raised money and resources to support freedom seekers escaping slavery. Through conversations and demonstrations, see how Americans celebrated and advocated for emancipation and equality prior to the Civil War.

The Sons & Daughters of Ham are living historians dedicated to recreating the lives and legacy of African-Americans living in antebellum America through educational living histories and reenactments.

Saturday, August 6: 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. – Stop by anytime for living history demonstrations and displays at the North Bridge. Visit the Friends of Minute Man welcome tent to learn how to support your park.
Sunday, August 7: 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. – Stop by anytime for living history demonstrations and displays at the North Bridge.

This program is free and open to the public; no registration is required. Parking is located at the North Bridge parking lot on Monument St. and the North Bridge Visitor Center parking lot on Liberty St.
