The Toy Shop of Concord
The French philosopher Montaigne said that children’s “games should be seen as their most serious-minded activity.” As a parent and owner of the Concord Toy Shop, I take to heart the value of play – not only how toys are played with, but also how they are made, why we want to sell them, and why they are bought.
Our customers and those who work with us – our employees, manufacturers, and distributors in the U.S. and abroad – know that we are proud to be the caretakers of a one of a kind New England institution that is committed to preserving traditions about toys and play.
The tradition of caring and thoughtful decision-making by parents: Is it well made? Is it age appropriate? Does it stimulate their thinking or imagination? Will it encourage positive play behavior? We ask these questions every time we research and purchase a toy because we know how important they are.
The tradition of a nurturing shopping experience: The Concord Toy Shop is inviting, lively, friendly, and old fashioned. Our staff is knowledgeable about our products. Our younger customers can sit on the floor and play with the toys. Parents can look around, speak with our staff, and get all of their questions answered.
For over 68 years, The Concord Toy Shop has been known and respected for its philosophy – that toys are serious business when it comes to the value of play.
