Supporting the Language Comprehension of Your Early Reader

In collaboration with Decoding Dyslexia Concord-Carlisle and in recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month, join Alcott’s own ELA Curriculum Specialist Katie Carr to learn how to support your child in their reading journey.

Katie Carr is a licensed reading specialist and certified literacy coach who holds an M.Ed in Elementary Education and M.Ed in Reading. She has over 180 hours of Orton Gillingham training through the Carroll School and has experience working with kindergarten through fifth grade readers and writers, including those with language-based learning disabilities. With over 15 years of experience in both private and public schools, Katie currently works as a Language Arts Curriculum Specialist in Concord Public Schools. She is training to be a professional learning facilitator at the AIM Institute for Learning and Research and also works as a Research Assistant at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, where she is currently co-authoring a series of briefs for the New York State Department of Education on the Science of Reading. Katie, a resident of Concord, enjoys spending time with her 3 young children and her husband Nat, who is also an educator in Concord.
