We are often kinder and more compassionate to our family and friends than we are to our own selves. Self-compassion, the practice of being kind to yourself, may seem hard to come by, but it can be learned with awareness and persistence—and almost nothing will increase your emotional well-being more. In this class, we will explore the concept of self-compassion, how it differs from self-esteem, how to notice and tame those mean inner voices (the inner “critic”), accept ourselves more, and treat ourselves like a loved one. The class will be practical and applied while also touching on some of the best research available in positive psychology.
