The Concord Free Public Library is excited to announce a variety of programs to celebrate National Poetry Month in April, many of which are in collaboration with Gaining Ground, a non-profit organic farm in Concord dedicated to hunger relief. Together with Gaining Ground, the Library is accepting poems written by all ages to be featured in a Poem Walk at the Gaining Ground farm, and some poems may be featured in a poetry walk on the Main Library lawn as well. Visitors to the farm will be able to read the poems as they walk through a peaceful natural setting.

Poems about vegetables, weather, Spring, birds and bugs, and nature can be submitted to poems@gainingground.org by March 15. The Library’s Children’s Department is offering DIY Poem Take and Make craft kits for the week of March 8, with the goal of inspiring all to write their poems. These Take and Make poems, as well as other poems written by patrons, can be “mailed” to the Library by placing a hard copy in the black mailbox on the porch of the Main Library, or in the toy mailbox at Fowler Library. The poems submitted to the Library will be shared with Gaining Ground for their Poem Walk.

The Concord Free Public Library will also feature poetry in the Virtual Writing Studio April 7 and April 21, led by CFPL staff and resident poet Cary Stough, as well as the much loved Poetry at the Library series that begins in March and continues through the Spring. More poetry programs will be announced in the coming weeks!
