As our understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has continued to evolve over time, more children are receiving a first-time diagnosis than ever before. When a grandchild receives an ASD diagnosis, grandparents often have questions about what this means for their future as well as how to best navigate this journey alongside their adult children. This presentation is designed specifically for grandparents looking to deepen their understanding of ASD. We will explore how neurodiversity shapes a child’s world, review common misconceptions about ASD and related diagnoses, and share practical, everyday tools to support their grandchild’s growth. A portion of this time will be used specifically to answer questions from the audience, and a list of additional resources will be provided.
