Marijuana, Adolescent Brain Development and Teen Risk-Taking: What Parents Need to Know

The Center for Parents and Teachers invites all interested adults to this power-packed talk that will cover normal risk taking behaviors of the developing teen brain. Dr. Potee will then focus on the impact of marijuana on the adolescent brain, acutely and long term. Equipped with these facts, adults in the lives of teenagers will be better able to discuss issues about substance use and risky behaviors with competence and clarity. OUR PRESENTER: Dr. Ruth Potee is an extraordinary presenter with a compelling presentation, grounded in the latest research. A board certified Family Physician and Addiction Medicine physician at Valley Medical Group in Greenfield, MA, Dr. Potee attended Wellesley College, Yale University School of Medicine and did her residency at Boston University where she remained as an assistant professor of Family Medicine for 8years. In addition to practicing family medicine, she is currently the Medical Director for the Franklin County House of Corrections, the Franklin Recovery and Treatment Center and the Pioneer Valley Regional School District as well as the Chair of the Healthcare Solutions of the Opioid Taskforce of Franklin County. She was named Franklin County Doctor of the Year by the MA Medical Society in 2015 and is the Chair of the Department of Medicine at Baystate- Franklin Medical Center. Dr. Potee engages communities in discussions about substance abuse through her wide-ranging series of talks.
