Boston College’s graduation is Monday, May 21, and in the
week preceding and immediately after the ceremony, thousands of BC students move out of
their dorms and leave behind usable household goods, including lamps, microwaves, coffee
makers, vacuums, sheets, towels, and blankets. For the eighth year in a row, Acton-based
Household Goods will spend 8 days on campus to collect these donations. The items will be
used for months to come by Household Goods to help families in need set up their homes.
Help from volunteers during the BC Move Out is crucial to making the collection a reality and a
success. With short shifts and no training required, the BC Move Out is ideal for people looking
for a one-time volunteer opportunity. They will join the hundreds of regular Household Goods
volunteers who take part in this annual event.
Volunteers are needed to:
● Collect and load donations at BC from Sunday, May 13 through Tuesday, May 22 –
but especially Monday, May 21, graduation day.
● Unload the trucks coming back from BC at the Household Goods facility, 530 Main
St. in Acton, from Monday, May 14 through Tuesday, May 22.
● Sort, clean and process donations Monday May 14 through May 25.
Please consider volunteering; no experience is necessary. To sign up, call Brigid at 978-635-
1710, ext. 6, or email volunteer@householdgoods.org.
