Cardboard Boat Race Challenge and Picnic Concert

June 17, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Musketaquid Arts & Environment invites community members to the 2018 Cardboard Boat Race Challenge. Free and open to the public, this friendly competition and community gathering aims to raise awareness about the importance of respecting and protecting our precious watershed!

Running from 3-6pm, the Cardboard Boat Race Challenge puts participants’ STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Design, Math) skills to the test! Using cardboard and other materials that Musketaquid will provide on-site, teams of 4-6 must build a boat that is both structurally sound and reflective of the river habitat. Then, two members of each team must board their respective boats and attempt to paddle them across the river (about 25 yards) without sinking. Prizes will be given out in each division (Community, Middle School Age, High School Age and Family) to the first boat to cross the finish line, the boat with the most creative design and the boat that sinks in the most spectacular manner! Advance registration is required, please visit the Umbrellaarts.org/event/summer-solstice-2018 to register your team and for more information about the specific rules of the Challenge.

Following the conclusion of the Cardboard Boat Race Challenge at 6pm, bring a blanket and a picnic dinner to the Old Manse Orchard and enjoy a concert with Sawyer Lawrence and his band. Make sure to roast some marshmallows before heading over to the Old North Bridge to join Voices for the Earth in Song!
