Umbrella Arts presents… BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL | September 25 – November 8, 2026 in Concord, MA
THE STORY: Half-bat, half-boy, ripped from the tabloid headlines, and thrust into the spotlight! In this camp horror comedy, a misunderstood monster seeks a place to belong. Taken in by a veterinarian, endeared to his adopted sister Shelly, and reviled by the locals, mild-mannered “Edgar” searches fiercely for a place he can truly be himself. Set to an eclectic pop-rock score by Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde, Heathers the Musical), Edgar’s wild journey is a hilarious satire and an offbeat fable for the outsider in all of us.

– Press Openings are for members of the press, yes, as well as subscribers, friends, family, the most passionate theater lovers, and ardent arts supporters. Join us in the lobby after the show for refreshments, including a beautiful celebration cake themed to the production.
– This Halloween, start the spookiest night of the year with us in haunting, historic Concord! October 31 show attendees will enjoy a photobooth experience at our step-and-repeat, a costume contest with bloody good prizes, a la carte themed concessions and drinks, and a mini art bazaar filled with spooky arts and oddities.
– KidCare is Umbrella Arts’ program that invites caregivers to attend select performances while their child(ren) engage in production-inspired art activities on-site. It’s better access to cultural events, plus a shared arts experience for families to talk about on the way home.
