SUMMARY:Growing Up Well: Mattering in a High Pressure World
DESCRIPTION:In many high-performing communities\, young people receive powerful messages—often unintentionally—that their worth is tied to grades\, accolades\, or productivity. While ambition can be healthy\, the constant drive to achieve can also contribute to rising levels of anxiety\, burnout\, perfectionism\, and disconnection. This year’s series will introduce the concept of “mattering”—the idea that young people thrive when they feel seen\, valued\, and connected\, not just evaluated. \nOn Sept 30\, educator and author Stephanie Malia Krauss will present insights from her work on helping children and families flourish in today’s rapidly changing world. Drawing on research and real-world examples\, Krauss explores how the pace and pressures of modern life—crowded schedules\, constant connectivity\, and rising expectations—are affecting both children and the adults who support them. She highlights essential human needs such as belonging\, play\, creativity\, and purpose\, offering practical strategies for parents\, educators\, and communities to create environments where young people can truly thrive. \nRegister online for this free event: thinkgiveproject.org/guw

SUMMARY:Mighty Moose
DESCRIPTION:This year registrants will be able to participate in-person on September 27th\, 2026 or virtually during the 2 weeks leading up to the in-person race day. We are waiving the entry fee again this year and hope you will consider a donation. \n\n\nThe Mighty Moose Fun Run/Walk is held in memory of Jenna Swaim\, a loving mother\, and wife who lost her courageous four-year battle with ovarian cancer on July 3\, 2018. She was 43 years old. The name of the event is inspired by Jenna’s Alaskan roots\, love for fun\, and strength! The event is part of the Kicks for Cancer weekend\, a very successful fundraiser that the Concord Carlisle High School soccer team and coaches Ray Pavlik & Steve Wells started in 2007. \nWe will continue Jenna‘s legacy and vision to raise crucial funding for this cause. All funds raised will support the ovarian cancer research of Dr. Kevin Elias. Together we are making a difference!

SUMMARY:A Celebration of Gulliver's Travels at 300
DESCRIPTION:Join Randall Warniers for Gulliver’s Travels at 300\, a talk celebrating the 300th anniversary of the first publication of Jonathan Swift’s beloved—and brilliant—18th-century satire. \nGulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift is a classic satirical novel that follows fictional ship’s surgeon Lemuel Gulliver on four fantastical voyages. The book was first published in London in October 1726\, and has remained popular\, in print\, and controversial ever since. It is considered one of the truly great literary works of the 18th-century. Through Gulliver’s encounters with tiny people\, giants\, talking horses\, and flawed societies\, Swift masterfully mocks 18th-century politics\, human nature\, and the limits of human reason. This talk will be one of many tributes during this anniversary year to the lasting appeal of an enduring book. \nThe Concord Free Public Library is committed to providing everyone with unimpeded access to our resources\, programs\, and services. Learn more about accessibility at our libraries. You can also email our administration team or give us a call at either of our libraries to request additional accommodations. \nThe Concord Free Public Library’s programs are free to the public thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library and the Concord Free Public Library Corporation.

SUMMARY:The Westerners: Mythmaking and Belonging on the American Frontier
DESCRIPTION:Join the Concord Museum for an evening with Megan Kate Nelson as she explores the captivating lives of women and men moving through the American West—Indigenous peoples\, Black Americans\, Mexican Americans\, and Canadian and Asian immigrants—in the nineteenth century. Her new book\, The Westerners\, tracks the attempts of many Americans to remove these individuals from history\, through a frontier myth that lionized individualism and conquest and celebrated white settlers traveling west in search of prosperity.
