SUMMARY:Ticks & Mosquitos: How To Stay Safe This Summer
DESCRIPTION:The Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative and Concord Health Department will be bringing you an informational session about ticks and mosquitos and how you can stay safe this summer. It is an all-ages\, interactive talk with live bugs and demonstrations! \nKayleigh Watson will be joined by entomologist Tony Kiszewski\, who will cover tick and mosquito biology\, why they are so prevalent during the summer months\, and different ways you can protect yourselves from them. \nKayleigh Watson is the shared services coordinator and regional epidemiologist for the Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative\, serving Sudbury\, Bedford\, Carlisle\, Concord\, Lincoln\, Weston\, and Wayland. She has a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Clark University. Before working in this role\, she was a clinical microbiologist for Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Saint Vincent’s Hospital. In her undergraduate work\, she did wet and dry lab research on cyanobacteria in bodies of water in Worcester and at Walden Pond in Concord\, MA. \nAnthony Kiszewski is a public health entomologist specializing in sustainable and appropriate interventions against malaria and other vector-borne diseases in the developing world. He is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Institutional Review Board of Natural and Applied Sciences at Bentley University. He is a Research Fellow at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University and a Visiting Scientist at the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and the T.W. Chan Harvard School of Public Health. He received his doctorate in Tropical Public Health from Harvard University and his Master of Science in Medical Entomology from Cornell University.
