SUMMARY:Disperse: Art Ramble by Helen Duncan
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Art Ramble features work by multi-media artist Helen Duncan. Duncan’s porcelain clay and wire forms are dispersed along the Fairyland Pond Trail in the Hapgood Wright Town Forest\, right off of Concord Center. Duncan’s delicate dandelion-esque pieces come alive on the trail\, responding to their environment by shifting with the breeze and reflecting sunlight. Through these exchanges\, as well as our own impact on the work\, we are asked to examine how the varied elements of the world around us may interact with each other. \nThrough her outdoor installation\, Duncan aims to create a space that “encourages reflection and awareness of the delicate balances that shape both the natural world and our own lived experiences\,” inviting viewers to slow down\, look\, and take notice. \nThe Umbrella Arts Galleries are free and open to all. \nOpening Reception: Tuesday\, October 6\, 6:00 – 8:00 PM (RSVP appreciated)\nArtist Walks (RSVP appreciated):\nSaturday\, October 10\, 2:00 – 4:00 PM (every 30 minutes) with Free Family Day\nTuesday\, October 13\, 9:00 – 10:00 AM\nThursday\, November 5\, 3:00 – 4:00 PM

SUMMARY:"Autumnal Tints" a talk and a little walk
DESCRIPTION:Thoreau was a lifelong observer of the colorful leaves that surrounded his native Concord every autumn. He kept copious notes on the autumn leaf color. In the final years of his life\, he put these observations into a lecture that he called “Autumnal Tints.” It would be one of the last essays that he worked on before his death in 1862. Join Concord historian and Thoreau scholar Richard Smith as he tells the story of Thoreau and “Autumnal Tints.” Afterward\, Richard and Park Interpreter Jacqui Kluft will lead a short walk to show visitors some of the plants discussed in the essay. \nParking may be limited. If the Main Parking lot is full\, please proceed to the Shop Lot and mention that you want to attend the program.
