SUMMARY:Pet Loss Workshop for Families
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on workshop for children in grades K-6 will be led by Graduate Interns and an LICSW at our nature center. \nFor many children\, a pet is a best friend\, a family member\, and a source of comfort. When that companion dies\, the grief can feel big\, confusing\, and sometimes overwhelming. \nBecause pet loss isn’t always talked about openly\, children can feel alone in their sadness. This group offers a caring\, supportive space to honor beloved pets\, share stories\, and make sense of big feelings together. \nThis workshop will be led by graduate interns and a licensed mental health counselor at our nature center. In addition to guided conversation\, we will make a memorial for our pets and families will have individual time with our therapy animals. Families will leave with tools for coping\, remembering\, and staying connected to the love they shared with their pet. \nPlease know that we understand grief is heavy enough\, and finances shouldn’t add to it. If the cost is a barrier at the moment\, please email me\, at swirtanen@nature-connection.org and we’ll find an option that works. \nPlease note we share our space with animals\, so you may notice the natural scents and sounds of small animals. If you’re sensitive to smells or have allergies\, please keep this in mind.

Founded in 2007\, the group is known for its innovative performances\, community engagement\, and collaborations across artistic disciplines\, bringing music to both traditional stages and diverse community spaces. \nWe’ll conclude the evening with cake in celebration of Ellen’s birthday. \nFree and open to everyone — no reservations necessary.
