On November 5, 2001, Georgia Congressman, and civil rights icon, John R. Lewis visited Concord Carlisle High School where he spoke to the entire student body and staff in a special assembly organized by Mr. Joe Zellner, who was, at the time, a CCHS Social Studies teacher. In a packed gymnasium, just two months after the September 11 attack on the United States, Lewis spoke of his lifelong crusade for civil rights, justice and peace.
In tribute to Representative Lewis’s passing on July 17, and his funeral on July 30, WIQH is rebroadcasting his presentation to CCHS several times. It’s also available on demand at the link above.
