The Umbrella Art Gallery and Studio Arts are pleased to present an exhibition of work by artist Nicholas Johnson, currently working in our Studio through the Artcubator residency program.
Johnson’s recent focus has been on surrealism, abstraction, and portraiture. He says that he is moving towards using landscape and open areas, as well as live figure models and miniature figurines to play with proportion and scale. The paintings he will create during this residency will consist of landscapes, portraiture, figures, and abstraction all funneled through the idea of balancing representational work along with its opposite. The new work will be exhibited in the upcoming group exhibition, The Colored Museum: Past, Present, Future, curated by Cedric Vise1 Douglas.
