Two Esteemed Musicians to Perform Virtually

April 25, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

- Free

A rare treat unites musicians for a program and live Q&A; music lovers will enjoy the upcoming collaboration between the Concord Chamber Music Society and the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library.

On Sunday, April 25 at 3 p.m., the Friends of the CFPL and the Concord Chamber Music Society (CCMS) will present a video with Boston Symphony Orchestra violinist and CCMS Founder Wendy Putnam and renowned pianist and composer Yehudi Wyner in a series of brief performances, which will be followed by a “live” question-and-answer session with the two musicians.

The program is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.

In an interview with the two musicians, Putnam said, “I love these pieces. They’re so personal. It’s a privilege to play them in front of you.”

The musical segments range from three to 15 minutes each. The hour-long performance includes music composed by Wyner, drawing on his career from 1961 to 2000, a piece by African American composer Florence Price, once a student at the New England Conservatory, and Schubert’s Sonatina No. 1.

Wyner was awarded the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for his “mesmerizing” piano concerto, “Chiavi in Mano,” (Italian for “keys in the hand”), which was commissioned and premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

A reviewer from the Public Broadcasting System called Putnam and Wyner “an ideally suited team – unshowy but full-hearted players” who hold each other in high regard.
