Twenty Classic Westerns and Why They Are Good for You, a talk by Randall Warniers

April 12, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

- Free

Join Randall Warniers for a talk on Twenty Classic Westerns and Why They Are Good for You. The talk will take place on Zoom on Monday, April 12 at 7pm.

Western movies have been the single most popular genre in the history of cinema, going back to the beginnings of the silent era. Early silent stars such as William S. Hart, Tom Mix, and “Bronco Billy” Anderson brought realism and authenticity to their movies, which helped define the western form for the many masterpieces made in the sound era. This talk will use the silent western as a starting point for a discussion of twenty of the greatest classic westerns from 1930 to 1970. Director John Ford and actor John Wayne, of course, are world famous for the films they made together. Others such as directors Howard Hawks, Anthony Mann, and William Wellman, along with actors Gary Cooper, Henry Fonda, James Stewart, and Randolph Scott, have also made many classics. A pdf summary of the twenty selected films (plus extra added attractions) will also be sent to attendees for future reference.

Please register at www.concordlibrary.org for the Zoom link.
