Join Randall Warniers for a virtual talk on Twenty Classic Sports Movies and Why They Are Good for You!
Sports movies are not really a genre but a setting in which other stories take place. These stories—often brilliant and moving—are usually about overcoming failure and adversity to win the game, or win the girl, or win the money. In many films the game itself doesn’t matter. It’s the winning—the triumph in some form—that is important. This one-hour presentation will discuss twenty of the best sports movies of the classic era, from the early days of silent cinema to the post-Rocky years. Some of these movies, which include dramas, documentaries, and comedies, are well known while others are neglected classics. Some of them may also surprise you. What they all have in common is a profound sense of the adventure and challenge of sports, and how the real theme of sports movies—winning the bigger game of life—is inspirational.
All the films to be discussed are available for viewing on DVD or streaming. All attendees will also receive a detailed pdf summary of the selected films (plus extra added attractions) for future reference.
