This talk will take the armchair travelers from one side of this beautiful country to the other by starting in the Cape Town area and moving to the Eastern Cape province. We will start in stunning Cape Town and its surrounding areas, including wine estates, penguins and a whale tale from Hermanus. The discussion and images will continue by highlighting the beauty of the green hills and spectacular seaside landscape of the Wild Coast – located in rural South Africa, juxtaposed with the immense challenges of life in communities there. This talk will describe some of the efforts being made by so many impressive and dedicated young South Africans to improve the lives of rural South Africans still experiencing systematic neglect and the lasting effects of apartheid. Several non-profit organizations involved with educational programs and health care will be featured and the adaptations they have made due to COVID-19 will be discussed. Pour a glass of South African wine and come join to learn more about this amazing country! Presenters: Amy Gleason and Julie Kleyn.
