Mondays 10am-1pm, Sept 12 – Oct 24
Alla prima is the Italian word for “at one time”. Adding a sense of immediacy and freshness to your painting is what we will focus on in this class using either oil or acrylic. Painting “Alla Prima” allows the artist to spend more of their energy “seeing” the subject, and painting the essence of it without feeling stuck on the details. In this class, we will work on learning techniques that promote a looser feeling in the brushstrokes and overall mood of the pieces we create. We’ll work on a series of small drawings and color “etudes” (studies”). Emphasis will be on creating a series relating one subject, then moving to another. We will focus on landscape, interiors, tablescapes, small objects, and still lives. The format of the class will be a combination of demos, discussions, ‘at-easel’ time, and the sharing of one’s work.
