Sap to Syrup: How to Tap Maple Trees at the Concord Free Public Library

March 2, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

- Free

Learn about how tree sap is transformed into sweet maple syrup! Gaining Ground Assistant Farm Manager, Erin Espinosa, will join us on the Main Library’s Front Lawn on Wednesday, March 2 at 2pm. Erin will give us a hands-on lesson for all ages about what’s involved in tapping our trees!

Gaining Ground is a nonprofit organic farm in Concord, Massachusetts that grows vegetables and fruit with the help of several thousand community volunteers and donates all of this fresh food to area meal programs and food pantries. Gaining Ground farmers tap over 100 maple trees on private and public land in Concord. They collect and boil about 1,500 gallons of sap each winter to make 25 gallons of syrup, which they donate to people experiencing food insecurity.

No registration needed. For more information about Library programs and services, call 978-318-3301 (Main Branch) or 978-318-3350 (Fowler Branch), sign up for our e-Newsletter, or visit us online at concordlibrary.org. Engage with us by following us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
