Sculptor, architect and environmentalist William Turville is well known in Concord for live events in which he crafts his vibrant, whimsical creations from recycled materials at the town’s DropOff SwapOff.

When Covid-19 canceled this spring’s event, however, the owners of Millbrook Tarry – home to Concord Market and Trail’s End Cafe — invited Turville to “do his thing” there on-site at their property….and WOW, what a thing he made!

Constructed of colorful playground parts, furniture, wires, tools, baby gyms, Tonka trucks, a ladder, and what might be old skis and exercise equipment, Bill’s Thing has taken over a good part of the lawn next to Walgreens – and it stands about as high!

However, Bill’s sculpture remains untitled — and that’s where you come in!

Turville and The Umbrella Arts & Environment program are inviting the public to visit the sculpture in-person next to 75 Lowell Rd, Concord or visit TheUmbrellaArts.org/NameIt before Saturday, October 31 and help Bill find the right title! The winning name and runners-up will receive prizes from The Umbrella Arts & Environment program and Concord Market.
More information, photos, Turville’s artist statement, and a form for suggesting a title can be found at TheUmbrellaArts.org/NameIt
