  • an overview of how anxiety and stress present in children and adolescents;
  • an understanding of what is normal and what is cause for concern;
  • strategies for identifying anxiety at home and in schools;
  • evidence-based strategies that can reduce anxiety, support children’s learning and support their overall healthy functioning.

Our community’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey (conducted every 2 years in conjunction with Emerson Hospital)
indicates that anxiety and stress are prevalent problems affecting many of our children and adolescents. Left
untreated, anxiety disorders tend to persist, they can worsen, and can lead to other forms of psychopathology or
unhealthy coping strategies. Through the research shared by Dr. Pincus, participants will learn how to better
identify anxiety and stress in order to have less adverse mental health outcomes, and will learn effective
responses including coping strategies that enhance emotional and mental wellness and offer academic support.
