1pm – 4pm Wednesdays Sept 28 – Nov 2
This course is open to all levels. Intermediate and advanced students will build on skills and experience to gain a deeper understanding of the possibilities of oil paint and still life. Beginners are welcome. Participants will work from an illuminated still life set up incorporating a self portrait. The self portrait is loosely defined and can be represented either by means of a mirror or a personal object. Hasler will guide participants from start to finish in the making of a personalized still life painting, through one-on-one instruction while painting directly from observation; by demonstrating color mixing, underpainting, compositional “blocking in”; and by looking together at examples from a wide range of art history. Participants who complete this workshop will gain a new way of painting and understanding art.
Materials: The workshop is structured around an in-depth exploration of oil color mixing and creating a palette. For this purpose, we will use a primary-color palette in oils, including red, yellow, blue, and white. (See supply list).
