Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Fire Worship

January 25, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

- $5 – $15

Gather around a roaring outdoor fire for a reading of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s complaints about stoves replacing the open fireplace. In his essay Fire Worship, from “Mosses from an Old Manse”, we’ll hear how stoves were destroying social interactions and watch the flames that so enchanted Hawthorne. Following the reading, there will be space for quiet reflection on nature, society, and own intentions for the new year. Attendees are welcome to write an intention, wish, or idea and burn it in the fire pit at the close of the event.
