In collaboration with Indian Hill Music of Littleton, the Concord COA is offering an 8-week music appreciation series via Zoom. This comprehensive introduction to music is appropriate for those new to exploring music and those that are looking to build on their musical appreciation. The total cost of the eight sessions is $80 payable to the Town of Concord on registration. We need a minimum of 12 to run this class. Please call the COA to sign up and receive your Zoom invitation at 978-318-3020.

The series outline is as follows:
March 17th & 24th – Eric Kamen – Indian Hill Music Piano Faculty “The Art of Chamber Music: Collaboration and Equity in Process of Making Music” – Focus on recordings of the great artists/groups in chamber music with explanations of how these collaborations work, plus a peek into a master class with Menahem Pressler.

March 31st & April 7th – Dr. Eileen Yarrison – Indian Hill Music Chair of Woodwinds & Brass Department “All in the Flute Family” – Survey and demo of historic instruments and their development into the current family of flutes including piccolo, transverse flute, alto, bass, and contrabass flutes.

April 14th & 21st – Mike Tucker – Indian Hill Music Percussion Faculty “Jazz Recordings of Broadway” – Exploration of recordings by the likes of Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis and more of famous Broadway hits, and discussion of the shows they come from, the state of society at the time they were recorded, and how these musicians related to the music.

April 28th & May 5th – Dr. Lisa Cleveland – Indian Hill Music Assistant Director of Education “Hearing the Big Picture” – Discussion on film scoring and how composers create a sense of unity and cohesion in movies. Learn about the techniques used to elicit certain feelings from the audience, and to bring the film’s action to life.
