This is a 100-year history (1870 to 1970) of the music that played a vital part in American women’s struggles for equal status and equal rights. It begins in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the music of women’s suffrage, then moves on to early songs of female independence associated with the “flappers” of the Roaring Twenties, then to tunes from World War II and modern feminist anthems. John Clark is a frequent presenter at the COA. This PowerPoint presentation with music is sponsored by Harvey’s Treasure Chest Gift shop and is free of charge.
