The non-profit farm Gaining Ground will hold a free educational farm tour on Thursday, October 6, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at its site on 341 Virginia Road in Concord. Everyone is invited to take part in this opportunity to learn about the process of winterizing crop fields and practices that extend the growing season, which the farm uses to produce more food for people experiencing food insecurity. The tour will discuss specific growing practices and principles related to winterization and season extension, such as year-round growing in greenhouses, using cover crops, applying mulches for winter, and proper long-term food storage techniques.
