The Friends of the Concord Free Public Library present Children’s Authors Rajani LaRocca and Susan Tan.
Rajani LaRocca was born in Bangalore, India and immigrated to the U.S. as a baby. She spent most of her childhood in Louisville, Kentucky. She is the author of middle grade novels and picture books that reflect her experiences as an immigrant, book nerd, and foodie; some explain medical topics to kids. Rajani attended Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, and trained in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Susan Tan began writing funny stories from my childhood while riding the bus in the mornings, and in bed before falling asleep at night. These stories gradually came together into her first book, Cilla Lee-Jenkins: Future Author Extraordinaire. The Cilla series is based on Susan’s own family and deals with the questions, challenges, and many joys that navigating different racial and cultural identities can bring. Susan earned her PhD at the University of Cambridge in Critical Approaches to Children’s Literature and was the 2015 Gish Jen Emerging Writers Fellow at the Writers’ Room of Boston.
