CCHS PA Speaker Series: Brain Health BootCamp

October 27, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

CCHS PA Speaker Series

Join us as We Reimagine Mental Health in Just 30 Minutes!  Brain Health Bootcamp talk followed by Q&A, led by co-founders Bryce Bjork and Ting Gao.

In February 2020, the Bjork family lost Chase Bjork, a beloved son, brother, and friend, to suicide. As a kind, outgoing, and active community member who was passionate about helping others in need and loved to make others laugh, Chase’s struggle and tragedy shocked the family and the community into action – something had to be done about mental health awareness, education, and stigma.

The Chase Bjork Foundation was founded soon after, with a mission to empower adolescents, families, and communities to learn about, discuss, and take action on mental health. Given that 76% of lifetime mental illness begins in adolescence, and over half of youth with a diagnosable condition never seek treatment, the foundation began developing the  Brain Health Bootcamp (BHB), an online educational program for high school students and their families to learn about mental health and how to get help. The online program features engaging videos, infographics, and more; BHB can be self-administered within 30 minutes and adopted for schools to foster a brain health literate environment. The Brain Health Bootcamp is catalyzing an important movement in mental health – it’s replacing the term “mental health” with “brain health” in order to emphasize how physical and treatable these conditions are and to destigmatize mental/brain health conditions. The Bootcamp is changing the way people think and talk about mental health by providing young people with engaging, evidence-informed content about mental health along with resources to improve their overall wellbeing.
