IMPORTANT NOTICE RE: POSTPONEMENT OF JUL 31 & AUG 1 EVENTS

Due to an unexpected medical emergency and hospitalization of one of the featured artists, this weekend’s performances of Beyond the Notes at The Umbrella (July 31 and Aug 1), as well as the Dazzleship Curator’s Tour with with Michael MacMahon, must be postponed. Fortunately, we anticipate the artist’s recovery and expect to reschedule for a near future date to be determined.

While the health and well-being of our artists is of paramount importance, we regret any inconvenience. Our staff will reach out to all ticketholders early next week regarding options for receiving a full refund or reserving a spot for the rescheduled dates.

Meanwhile, The Umbrella Arts Center and Beyond the Notes thank you for your understanding, support and patronage.
DAZZLESHIP ARTISTS RECEPTION JULY 30

Please note that the weekend’s schedule changes do not impact this evening’s Dazzleship Artists Reception in The Umbrella Main Gallery, which remains open to the public. The event will still be scheduled to take place from 6-8PM, and include refreshments and conversations with participating artists.

Beyond the Notes
July 31 & Aug 1

Performing live from The Umbrella Arts Center, violinist and Beyond the Notes Founding Artistic Director Sarah Whitney is back for her first full form, in-person concerts since the pandemic began.

What is Beyond the Notes?

Beyond the Notes is a unique concert experience like no other.

Started 8 years ago by Concord-native Sarah Whitney, this interactive concert experience changes perceptions of traditional classical concerts and deepens the connection between audience and performer.

In addition to presenting some of today’s most sought after musicians, Beyond the Notes invites audience members to participate in the concert by submitting written questions to be answered live onstage by the performers.

Joined by NYC-based cellist Ani Kalayjian, the two performers will take the audience on an unforgettable journey, presenting an eclectic program of solos and duos that highlights the works of Black composers. The program will also feature a unique collaboration with experimental animator Sarah E. Jenkins, one of the many artists represented in The Umbrella Arts Center gallery show, Dazzleship.

20% of all proceeds will be donated to CLASP, a national, nonpartisan, anti-poverty nonprofit advancing policy solutions for low-income people. CLASP develops practical yet visionary strategies for reducing poverty, promoting economic opportunity, and addressing barriers faced by people of color.
