Author Visit with Rajani LaRocca – Feeling Divided, Being Whole

April 22, 2022 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Children ages 9 years and up are invited to join this workshop with Newbery Honor author, Rajani LaRocca. Learn about the inspiration for her book Red, White, and Whole (Quill Tree Books/HarperCollins, 2/201) and LaRocca’s path to writing it, from her childhood to the present day. Get inspired to tell your own stories and know that we all belong.

Red, White, and Whole is a heart-breaking, yet hopeful middle grade novel-in-verse about 13-year-old Reha, who is torn between two worlds: school, where she’s the only Indian American student, and home, with her family’s traditions and holidays. Reha learns that her mother is very ill and she is determined to be the perfect daughter and help her mother heal.

Red, White, and Whole won the Newbery Honor and has received multiple starred reviews. It is a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, a Spring 2021 Indie Next Top Ten Title, a BookPage Best Middle Grade of 2021, and the winner of the 2021 New England Book Award.
