This summer “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” at the Concord Free Public Library (CFPL)! The CFPL Summer Reading Program runs from Monday, June 6 through Friday, Aug 12 and is free and open to children of all ages.

Visit the Main Library or Fowler Branch to register and collect your prizes. Everyone gets a necklace and brag tag for joining the program. Kids earn beads for their necklace by reading and completing challenges on our weekly bingo boards. Our youngest patrons get to earn cute rubber duckies!

Additionally, every week our library mascots, Henry T. and Weezie Owl, will be flying around Concord and hiding out in different spots. If you spot them, mark your bingo board and you can win prizes!

Throughout the summer, families and children can enjoy drop-in programs every weekday at 10:30am:

Mondays – music concerts
Tuesdays – craft programs
Wednesdays and Thursdays – storytimes
Fridays – puppet shows

In addition to daily drop-in programs, there will be a host of other exciting activities.

NEW TIME: On Tuesday, June 14 at 10:30am, children ages 6 and up can meet award-winning children’s author Wafa’ Tarnowksa at the Main Library. Wafa’ will read aloud from her new, critically acclaimed picture book, “Nour’s Secret Library”. Nour’s Secret Library is about the power of books to heal, transport, and create safe spaces during difficult times — especially times of war. Afterwards, participants can get their books signed by the author.

On Wednesday, July 6 at 10:30am, children ages 4 and up can meet acclaimed children’s illustrator and author D.B. Johnson at the Main Library! Johnson has made a distinct mark in the world of children’s literature by introducing kids to the important ideas and work of Henry David Thoreau, George Orwell, M. C. Escher, and René Magritte. Children are invited to bring their own copies of D.B. Johnson’s books from home and get them autographed by the author!

On Thursday, July 7 at 7pm, Concord favorite Rockabye Beats will perform a family concert on the Main Library Lawn as part of the 2022 Concerts On the Lawn series. Their songs offer a range of styles from rock n’ roll to calypso to funk and even blues. In case of rain, the concert will take place in the Forum.

On Wednesday, July 20 at 4pm, children of all ages are invited to join Animal World Experience on the Main Library Lawn. Discover the world of animals like never before – meet and touch unusual animals that are seldom seen in the wild except by seasoned experts.

On Monday, August 1st at 2pm, children can join in on an Insect Safari with Professor Bugman at the Main Library. This outdoor science event will help children build important scientific skills through hands-on experience, all while providing scientific supervision, mentorship, and subject matter expertise with a real veteran entomologist. In case of rain, the program will be rescheduled to Tuesday, August 2nd at 2pm.

On Wednesday, August 10th at 10:30am, we celebrate the culmination of the 2022 “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” Summer Reading Program with Circus Minimus, a One-Man Circus in-a-Suitcase performance. Enjoy an enthralling, whimsical celebration of the imagination at the Main Library!
